Everyone has the right to legal representation
Welcome to Megan McCormack Barrister & Solicitor.
I am a sole practitioner and practice in criminal defence and traffic law, restraining order matters and criminal injuries compensation.
I am committed to the principle that everyone in our community has the right to legal advice and legal representation.
I work with each client to appreciate their unique circumstances so I can provide tailored legal advice they understand, while creating a safe and supportive environment.
It is important that each client has the right information so they can make informed decisions about their legal matter.
I strive to uphold the protection of my client’s legal rights and to work towards the best available outcome.
Who am I?
-
At our first meeting, I want to learn about you: who you are, why you need a lawyer and where you want to be at the end of this journey.
I am flexible about where and how we meet and communicate: a phone call, text, video call, email, letter or face to face.
-
Integrity, honesty, and empathy have always shaped the way I work.
To me, these values aren't just words—they are the foundation of everything I do as a lawyer.
-
Prior to practicing as a lawyer, I worked in the areas of child protection (Victoria), tenancy and disability (WA Goldfields).
I returned to study law as a mature age student to address my passion for equal access to justice for all members of our community. I believed I could assist individuals to achieve better outcomes for themselves, their family and their community. I still hold this belief and continue to put this into practice.
I have been fortunate to practice in both civil and criminal matters over the last decade including representing the most vulnerable members of our community at their most difficult times, for example, unhoused people, those suffering mental health conditions, victims of family violence, First Nations peoples and those who are culturally and linguistically diverse.
For the majority of my legal career, I have practiced in Criminal Law. Prior to returning to Criminal Defence, I worked as a State Prosecutor.
I am proud of where I’ve been and am excited for what’s ahead.
